Born in Detroit, Oct. 17, 1817, the son of Soloman and Sarah (Sproat) Sibley; was one of the first to being the practical development of copper and iron mines In the Lake Superior region. He was in California during the gold rush. Inheritor of a large estate In Detroit, he figured prominently in its industrial circles and also in connection with its civic interests.
